I was *not* ready for this today, for sure. I wasn't feeling the burpees for whatever reason (only going Monday and Tuesday this week, perhaps?) Either way, It took me 38:13 @ 95# squats, regular burpees and ~50# sandbag…meh

Using TCP for DNS Queries

So, I came across an interesting situation the other day. A linux machine I was working on could access a DNS server, but only via TCP.

$ echo exit |telnet 192.168.1.5 53

Connection closed by foreign host.
Sweet, it looks like I can use the DNS server! Let’s make a query to be sure…

Hmm, looks fishy, especially since I just used telnet to connect to port 53. Google-Fu OK, after some reading and thinking, telnet used TCP to connect to the port – DNS uses UDP. I bet that’s it. Let’s see if we can dig using TCP.

Well, look at that, we can use TCP for DNS. Now, how do I get NetworkManager to actually use TCP for DNS? Google-Fu Ah-ha! You can use nmcli to configure ipv4.dns-options and set “use-vc”. Let’s give it a whirl…

Yep, that did it. So we’re in business, using DNS over TCP by setting the option “use-vc”. Granted nobody will read this, but it’s here so I’ll remember it one day in the future, when I run across this again…

Nobody wanted to do today's WOD so Coach Mark made one for us (that I slightly modified)

20 Minute AMRAP

10 alt-dumbell snatch
15 push-ups
20 hollow-rocks

I subbed in my shoulder-tap push-ups and subbed out sit-ups for hollow-rocks. Additionally, I just did 5 rounds instead of the 20 minutes, as Bruce said 5 rounds was good. That took me 27:33 and it was actually a good workout.

So, since none of us at 11:00 bother with handstand walks, here is what I did:
25 push-ups with shoulder taps
15 abmat situps
10 Box Jumps
15 T2B
20 walking lunges

I managed 2 rounds and 25 push-ups with shoulder taps. It was pretty spicy, but not too bad overall. I think I like the push-up variation, that may be my new go-to for any workouts that call for push-ups.

Well, I got 17 burpees. We’re trying to get back into shape, though compared to most of America, we’re not out of shape. Burpees per round: 4, 0, 3, 4, 6 – thrusters per round: 20, 16, 10, 10, 10. I’ve got to remember that the back corner of the gym is *HOT*
